Monumental Brasilia
Documentary series in development
Synopsis
Brasília Monumental is a documentary series that will present some of the most beautiful monuments of the federal capital, most of them designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, as well as SQS 308, considered the model block of the residential project created by urban planner Lúcio Costa. Each episode of the series will showcase a monument and the historical context of Brasília's creation and the architectural characteristics expressed in each of these constructions. With testimonies and technical information, the cultural and aesthetic dimension of each monument will be revealed, situating each one within the architectural ensemble of the capital, which led to Brasília being designated by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site, the only work of the 20th century to receive this title.
The 13 monuments expected to be featured in the series are: National Congress, Metropolitan Cathedral of Brasília, Planalto Palace, Cláudio Santoro National Theater, Republic Museum and National Library, Itamaraty Palace, Juscelino Kubitschek Memorial, Alvorada Palace, Sara Kubitschek Hospital, Casa do Cantador, TV Tower and Digital Tower, and SQS 308, with its small church. Each episode will provide information about each of the monuments, showing the capital's and Brazil's scenario at the time they were built, the reasons that led to the decision to build them during that period, the demands of the new capital, and the needs for the services that the building would house. Through research, data, and testimonies, the details of the monument, its aesthetics, and how this architectural work establishes a visual composition with Brasília's monumental landscape will be revealed.
